Why is Tika invitation only right now?

Tika is new, and we’re opening it to a small number of people at a time. Registering with Tika makes you a client of law firm Tika Legal, with real lawyers taking on your matter and everything you tell us protected by confidentiality from that moment. That’s a serious commitment, so we’re being careful about how quickly we grow. We’re inviting new people regularly, and we expect to reach everyone who has left their email address with us before Tika opens to the public.

Does waiting for an invitation mean I miss out?

No. When you register, your report is checked against every report already with us, including the ones made before you arrived.

I’ve already given Tika my email address. Do I need to do it again?

Possibly, and it’s easy to check by just doing it. Signing up to our newsletter isn’t the same as asking us for an invitation to register, and most people don’t remember which one they did. If you’re not sure, put your email address in above. There’s no harm in doing it twice.

Will I be added to your newsletter?

No. Leaving your email address here only tells us to let you know when you can register. If you’d like our newsletter as well, you can sign up for it separately on our home page.

What happens to my email address?

We use it for two things: to tell you when you can register with Tika, and to open your access when it’s your turn. It is kept on a separate list from our newsletter, and we won’t use it to send you anything else.

Leaving your email address here doesn’t make you a client of Tika, and it isn’t a report. Nothing you do on this page is covered by legal privilege. That begins when you register and we take you on. We only hold your address, nothing about you or what happened.

Your address is held by the third party services we use to manage our mailing lists and send email, which store information outside New Zealand. We keep it until you register, or until you ask us to remove it. You can ask to see, correct or delete it at any time by emailing questions@tikalegal.org.nz.

Tika is not a crisis service. For 24/7 medical and counselling support, phone the government-run helpline on 0800 044 334 or the charity-run helpline on 0800 883 300. If you need immediate help, phone 111.
